Over the weekend, Critical Mass came together to celebrate the success of the project so far and congratulate participants on all their hard work and dedication.
On Saturday 4th December, Critical Mass hosted their first Winter Celebration at Infinite Arts for Critical Mass participants and friends from across the West Midlands including Critical Mass Champions, Freewheelin Dance.
As participants arrived, they were given new exclusive Critical Mass merchandise and greeted by VIP guest Perry the Bull, the official Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games mascot!
Hosts Zoie Golding (Critical Mass Lead Artist) and Tara Lopez (Critical Mass Senior Producer), started the celebration with a wonderful welcome and introduced Chief Creative Officer for Birmingham 2022 Festival, Martin Green to the stage to share all the exciting things happening in the region next year. This was followed by a short Q&A from Commonwealth Games Ceremonies Director, Iqbal Khan & Choreographer, Corey Baker.
We got everyone moving and mingling on the dance floor with Zoie’s mass dance activity which involved some amazing choreography and flare from all Winter Celebration attendees.
It was such a celebratory atmosphere all evening. So many stories about how Critical Mass is supporting people in their dance lives and to feel more connected, especially in this whirling pandemic time. Our first social demonstrated the power of Critical Mass when we come together and I cannot wait for this to continue throughout the coming year.

A delicious spread was provided by the venue including festive mince pies – these went down a treat! We also had our very own Magic Mirror photo booth, where dressing up and looking silly was essential. The evening ended with singing and smiles from all whilst dancing to our Critical Mass Dance Party Playlist created by Critical Mass participants. The perfect party playlist for any occasion!
It was such a lovely event and I enjoyed myself so much! Can’t wait for more events like that! Thank you so much for taking the time to organise that event for us all to enjoy.
